A LITTLE ADVICE TO PARENTS DURING EXAMS

The stress of exams is usually so high that not only kids, it doesn’t spare parents as well.

Children who experience stress may be irritable, not sleep well, lose interest in food, worry a lot, and appear depressed or negative. Headaches and stomach pains can also be stress-related.

A healthy support from parents can help children share their worries and keep things in perspective. They feel relaxed and perform much better with parents support.

 

MUST DO’s for PARENTS

  • To avoid a stress situation for the child the parents must provide right kind of motivation and a conducive environment.
  • Just good school and tuition are not substitutes for emotional cushioning.
  • Work out child’s schedule with him instead of nagging him. There could be learning problems.
  • Try to understand your child as much as you can.
  • Every child is different with different capabilities. Some children grasp things hurriedly ,some slowly but perfectly. So understand your child first.
  • Humour relieves tension. Be light and humorous with the child.
  • Try to gain your child’s confidence and discuss his problems with him ,help him to find a solution.
  • Exams are not the end of the world.
  • Too much expectations from parents may put child in stress. Try to relieve that stress which can’t be overcome by anything accept your support and unconditional love towards your child what may result be.
  • A balanced diet is vital for your child’s health, and can help them to feel well during exam periods. So keep a check on healthy diet during exams.
  • Good sleep will improve thinking and concentration. Most teenagers need between 8 and 10 hours’ sleep a night.
  • Allow half an hour or so for kids to wind down between studying, watching TV or playing some sport freshen their mind.
  • Cramming all night before an exam is usually a bad idea. Sleep will benefit your child far more than a few hours of panicky last-minute study.
  • When the exams are over, help your child celebrate by organising an end-of-exams treat.
  • Don’t use rewards as bribes. Instead, encourage your child to work for their own satisfaction, offering small, frequent treats.
